Let's Make a Movie!
Max Brazzle, television producer, on the road for fourteen years. His mission: to find Al Capone's vault and return face to Geraldo Rivera. His journey has taken him to every small farming town in the Midwest and he has witnessed every imaginable thing. This job has controlled every waking, breathing, eating, sleeping moment of his life in the form of subconscious figure Scareface Al Capone, who steadfastly steers Max along this journey as soul mate, conscience, companion and guide. One thing stays consistent for Max though; he has had every conceivable lead but still hasn't found the vault.
This journey brings Max to Alma Junction - Bowling Pin Capital of America. This is a small farming community whose claim to fame is the old bowling pin factory north of town. With the factory long since abandoned, the town's daily life rests with small town economics, vast farmland, the local tavern, and friendly folk. Alma Junction is the type of town where everyone knows what you had for breakfast and whether you liked it or not.
Once in Alma Junction, Max meets Sally Beenkins and her foster brother, Deputy Ron Peacher. As luck would have it, Ron holds the key to Max's quest; he knows the location of Al Capone's elusive vault. That location is the old bowling pin factory. One of history's little known ‘facts’ is Al Capone's love of bowling and his involvement in the advancement of the game in America. This ‘fact’ is revealed in his ownership of the bowling pin factory. The current owners of the factory are Muledog and Jessie, life long residents of Alma Junction, who witnessed Al Capone hiding his treasure in the concealed basement vault. This is a secret that Muledog and Jessie have solely shared with Ron and a secret that has financially benefited the three of them, as well as Sally and her son Adam, since the Geraldo Rivera debacle in 1986.
It was their fettered secret; that is, until Sally's husband finds out about the vault and attempts to liberate its contents for his own gain. Ron catches him in the act and when the arrest goes sour, Ron beats him to within an inch of his life. The only solution to the problem of Sally's husband is to lock him away in prison and forget about him. Unaware of what really happened, Sally is quick to forget her no-good husband as Ron continually steers her in the direction of Larry "Fonzie" Ford, boyhood friend of Sally, whose life-long crush on Sally and fixation on leather-jacket-wearing Fonzie define who he is.
Fast forward to the current day and Max's arrival in Alma Junction. Stealing into town, with completely different motives, are two other men. They are Frontseat and Backseat. Frontseat's journey to Alma Junction is bent on one thing: revenge. Revenge against Ron and to once again take what he believes is his - Capone's treasure. For as things would have it, Frontseat is in fact Sally's husband. Backseat is along for three reasons of his own: money, women, and a hell of a good time. He finds one of these in the form of Sarah Miles, aka Sahara Desssert, whose dream in life is to become an adult film actress.
As Max goes through the motions of inquiring into the existence of Capone's vault in Alma Junction, he inadvertently gets caught up in Frontseat's plot of revenge. Max's investigation and Frontseat's scheme get intertwined, drawing all the characters into a wild chase through the town - between the local tavern and the bowling pin factory. Max and Sally's attempt to save Ron from Frontseat's machinations leads Max, Sally, Ron, Frontseat, Backseat, Sahara, Fonzie, Muledog and Jessie to confront each other as they converge on the bowling pin factory. Secrets are revealed, a score is settled and people change forever. This all culminates in the discovery of the vault, bringing Max's life-consuming quest to an end. Or does it . . . . ?
